sun!

after the longest stretch of rain oregon has ever seen, we have been basking in the glory of the sun. 

last night we had a picnic in the park with some friends, and the girls happily jumped into a forbidden fountain. we had our first couple mornings of coffee on the porch and mud pies for breakfast, and even applied sunscreen two days in a row! this afternoon i took adah and opal to the gorge to do a little hiking. 

looks idyllic, yes? this picture was taken right before adah lost her favorite shoe to the mighty current of the columbia river, and began sobbing uncontrollably for quite a while. many people tried to chase the pink croc down the river, but it was never recovered. that left me, opal, and a crying kid with one shoe to get down a rocky trail to the car. fun times!

afterwards we had a field trip to the fish hatchery, and as we were leaving and i thought we were all collected again, opal got the worst nose bleed i have ever seen. we didn't have any napkins in the car, so i used my shirt to clean her off on the side of the highway. when we got over that hurdle, the girls fell promptly asleep in the back seat. i wanted that luxury, too. 

ice cream saved the day. better moods all around after the little nap, and the girls spent the rest of the afternoon riding bikes until it was time for a picnic dinner...
