i'm alive, but with vertigo.

hey there.

i got into a little accident last thursday and my car is totaled, which means i may get to have the prius i've been wanting. i should probably stop being ridiculous, but the whole thing was just so surreal it was almost funny. one minute i was sitting in traffic, and the next thing i know
there was a huge crash, and i was sitting in the car shaking while some dudes prepared to load me onto a stretcher. i couldn't get out of the car because the door was smashed in so bad, but i did have a second to take a picture of the whirring ambulances and fire trucks to send to anne. this is not a recommended course of action, though. it worries partners to receive horrifying images with the caption, "there's been an accident." but as we know, hindsight is 20/20. i also sent her this one, a self portrait taken in the emmanuel emergency room before i was carted off for x-rays. this is another one of the things that iphones are especially good for.

in all seriousness, the accident experience was actually really jarring and scary, and as a result i've been walking around with severe neck pain and vertigo for the past few days. and i have spent innumerable hours on the phone with insurance companies and filling out forms, which is no fun.

which is not to say that the weekend wasn't fun, because i once again had the opportunity to realize the amazing friend and partnerships i have in my life. i'm very appreciative of all the help i've/we've received in the past few days, and i'm feeling very loved and carried, despite the overwhelming week that's looming over my head.

liz and seamus also came to visit, and that always makes my days, since they're the type of friends who are so easy to be around. with them there's lots to say, and lots to not have to say, which i love. adah is also crazy about them, and was waiting at the door for them to arrive a few hours before they actually got here. here's liz and bug eating some fro-yo:

and this is one that adah took of seamus, which made her unable to stop giggling:

thanks for the blast, even though my world was spinning.

home.body.

my girls went on their first trip to lagrande together, leaving me to enjoy my second weekend of pure adult time since bug was born. i had high expectations for stepping outside my box and doing some things that i don't normally get to do-- like snowshoe and stay out past 6 p.m., but i got sick and spent most of the weekend lying next to my cat and eating organic sugar cereal, which i have recently become addicted to, thanks to my friend shannon.

other highlights included a massage, and a long coffee date with sara, just like the good ol' days.

it may not look like she's having fun, but she is. trust me.

i also managed to get none of my progress reports written (due tomorrow), or complete class work for my inappropriate class at PSU, which involves cultural voyeurism at its worst. but that's okay, yes?

i'm excited for my girls to get back home!

news in our world

  • i am a big fan of bullets. and apparently the kind of bullets that get longer as the post goes on.
  • tomorrow night i start the last class for my master's degree in curriculum and instruction which has taken me approximately 10 years to acquire. i've been um... interested in and busy with other things, thankyouverymuch.
  • our housemate is making the mistake (haha) of moving in with her cousin 4 blocks south and 10 blocks west, so we're now on the lookout for a new roomie. if you know anyone who shares a vehement dislike of unclean floors and is generally awesome, please send him or her our way.
  • i'm experiencing a major bout of wanderlust. besides reading a random illustrated anthology of poems about birds each night (because poems are what i have time for, people) i've been spending an inordinate amount of time not grading papers and reading descriptions of organic farms on the WWOOF site. i'm thinking eco-vacation: a few week apprenticeship for me and my kid to learn some practical farming skillz. wanna come with? nowhere far. italy would be lovely, but i would like a place we could drive to. arizona and new mexico are places in the u.s. i've never visited and would love to see. might opt for a washington or CA farm, though, for convenience sake. each farm has different things to offer: dairy, wool, bees, and fruits and veggies, of course. the kid is currently obsessed with farms, and playmobil just might not cut it. and me? long live the antioch co-op-er!
  • bug is going to be the flower girl in her dad's wedding. yes, alex and laura are officially engaged! this happened when the sun peeked out of the clouds while snowshoeing last weekend, and we're thrilled. i love the coming together of these particular families, and of course we adore them both. don't tell anyone, but there might be a suing-of-the-state involved in an effort to make some loud noise about marriage inequality. you don't think they'd just bask in the glory of their heterosexual privilege, do you? this is the tinker family we're talking about. bonnie would be proud.
this concludes your nightly news. stay tuned.
