father's day and pride

pride NW, after a nice hiatus last year, once again planned the pride parade on father's day, which i find completely annoying. we had a father's day BBQ with my brother and dad the night before, and on father's day morning, a brunch for the favorite dad guy, his laura, and her parents.

menu: coffee and juice, maple bacon quiche, roasted asparagus and potatoes, biscuits and jam, and coconut milk melon.

we love these people. but you already knew that.

afterwards, we ran to the train in the rain and headed downtown. adah brought her buddy.

they were goofballs.

here they are, waiting for candy, or watching something which appears blasphemous:

i cried at the usual times: when the un-bigoted religious people walked by, and the p-flag parents who carried signs about loving their children. there was also some sadness as we waited for bonnie to jump off a float in a tie-dyed t-shirt. her spirit is so strong.

after awhile we decided to join the parade, and marched with the PLOP'ers, who win the award for best acronym: pregnant and parenting lesbians of portland. even thought my nephew kai isn't a pregnant or parenting lesbian, he marched too, and got a kick out of it.

train ride home after a celebratory day...
