grateful.

one of the things i've been daydreaming about over the past several years is going somewhere tropical in the winter. thanks to a number of travel discount websites that bombard my email with weekly specials, we were able to go to cozumel, mexico in december for a week. i loved every single stark contrast to portland's rainy grey weather in winter.

i loved being unplugged from the internet for 7 days. i loved drinking virgin mojitos with adah in the sand, and watching her make friends with little people who spoke lots of different languages.

i loved being in the clear sea and collecting mammoth seashells.
i loved snorkeling with adah, who is no longer excessively irritated by the equipment.
i loved our 1960's VW bug with no power steering, and driving assertively as if i knew where i was going.

i loved roaming unknown streets in another country like i did when i was nineteen, and scoping out where we could get the most delicious and unusual food. i loved the men selling churros at twilight. i loved seeing a christmas pageant in the town square. i loved picking up a couple of israeli hitchhikers and taking them to a bakery. i loved having nothing to do at night except review the day and read our room to sleep. i loved watching adah ecstatically approach lizards, and i loved not arguing with anne about the thermostat.
i loved going away, and i loved coming home.

I sure am glad that you liked something about me being there with you! LOL. Nicely written. I enjoyed most every warm minute and appreciate all your planning and your sense of adventure. Looking forward to September's trip with you, but kidless! How will we manage without the little one?
