how this is possible i have no idea, but it's true: we officially have a six year old. once again i'm very grateful for our big, quirky family and our celebrations together.
to my big/little adah:
as we know, the days are long and years are short, and i love having the opportunity to savor days with you. you never cease to amaze me with your eclectic interests and passions, your feist, and your sense of humor. i love waking up with you each day and hearing what comes to mind for you immediately-- little strands of random things you forgot to tell me yesterday or the day before. one morning it's "six more days until i can paint a pussy willow in art class!" and the next it's about about a character in a book we're reading or a question about how far infinity really is. that brain of yours is truly fascinating, and i love watching it grow.
you still love to garden and grow things. last week you singlehandedly harvested about 15 pounds of carrots. you also love to draw and make things, which has made our mornings surprisingly quiet and relaxing. while i'm getting ready for work, you're downstairs making stuff: watercoloring, building structures out of popsicle sticks, gluing feathers to things, drawing pictures, making decorations, adding more color to our world.
this past weekend you had two birthday gatherings: one for family, and one for friends.
your favorite parts were demolishing a pinata in the rain and getting your face painted by your laura. i just happened to walk by when laura was turning lily's face into a butterfly:
lily: who are you, anyway?
laura: i'm laura. i'm married to adah's dad.
lily: adah has two moms, a dad, and a laura?
pretty much. and then lily proceeded to tell her what an awful face painter her own mom is, even though she has the same book.
the other highlight of your 6th birthday was acquiring Rascal the Rat. you've been obsessed with hamsters since last october, and when i finally took you to the pet store to investigate, we found out that rats make much better pets. we let that idea simmer for a couple weeks and look who came home with us yesterday:
you have to admit. she's pretty darn cute.
